We saw a few, but mostly just spent the time chatting and bundling up from the chill wind.

After a good night's sleep it was a quick final pack up before Puzzleman came over to pick me up and we were off to his house to load up the Jeep and nvsrvyr's Yukon! Today was the first day of a week long camping/exploring/camping trip through central Nevada that would end at the Boundary Peak event.

We headed straight out highway 50, grabbing caches along the way for Puzzleman's DeLorme Challenge, and the occastional benchmark for nvsrvyr. Some beautiful locations, fantastic caches, and awesome friends were discovered throughout the day.

We ended up at Spencer's Hot Springs outside of Austin and set up camp. This is the first time I've been camping in many many years and the burbling spring nearby along with the herd of wild burros definately made it an interesting night.

I had so much fun!!

Pictures for this month's 12 of 12: August

July 12th

Almost caught up!

Another caching day, though this time I got to explore a new area along the Carson River, hoping to find a place to put my Lily Pad tribute. Alas, didn't find the right spot, but did find a really cool new place.

Afterwards, drove up through town to head to my Diabolical 2 location and tried scouting out some of the sites and placements for the various stages. Then it was off to Wal-Mart to buy supplies! You can see the first part of one stage laid out on my couch. I'm hoping that those who attempt this one have as much fun as they did on the original!

Pictures for this month's 12 of 12: July

June 12th

Still trying to catch up!

Well, I'm trying to work out in the morning, however, it's getting harder to wake up in time to think about doing this.

Another day at work, though today I managed to get ahold of one of the Circle of 12 t-shirts made by CastleDwellers. I love this shirt, it's so comfy and manages to spark a conversation whenever I wear it about what the Circle is and why it's so hard.

Afterwards, I got a hair cut as it's just been driving my buggy lately, before hooking up with Puzzleman to go caching on the south end of Prison Hill. He's a Carsonite I met via Twitter and was really cool online, and when he started talking about having his students see that he really wasn't the monster jerk they saw in class, I figured I'd crash the party and meet this guy. I went caching down in Jack's Valley Rd before I realized that this area was soon to become premanently blocked to motorized vehicles - normally it's only closed during winter.

Also went out to Bill's parents before taking Damien to the airport. While waiting there, I picked up my new mascot travel bug, Timber Wolf! He's so cute in his little suitcase!

Finally, went out with Dad to check on his Aerial Intelligence cache as there was a DNF. I had two, he found those, and we DNF'd the new one. Still a great hike under a full moon!

5 hours later, I woke up to get ready for work. I'm stoked that my legs haven't hurt after these hikes and that I've actually got the energy again to take the stairs more than once a day! Today was the same ol same ol, though I did have a ton of trips to the hospital for deliveries. I suppose that's why I kept seeing friend Magpie all day! He sure was drawing attention to himself!

After work, I tried once again for that blasted cache, but this time I was armed with a hint from the owner and from Puzzleman who had just found it this afternoon. Raced up the trail, climbed the rock outcrop, and spent 5-10 minutes looking before the 35mm was in my hand! Took a bunch of pictures while there, then headed down hill to meet up with b0neZ and kindergeek and make a trip up to Reno.

Beginning a day with a DNF and finishing with with an STF, yeah, this was a great day!

Pictures for this month's 12 of 12: March

February 12th

Hey a 12th when I'm not sick! Yippee!

Though I woke up exhausted! Tried to do my workout, but just couldn't wake up enough to focus, so gave up on that. Got ready for work, put my dishes away, ate breakfast, and stepped out of the house... only to discover that the trucks for the road construction were filling up the street! So I had fun getting out of here this morning.

Work was okay, the usual weekday thing. Kept busy with various deliveries and runs to go get one thing or another. Most interesting part was having two deliveries on opposite ends of the valley within 15 minutes of each other.

Afterwards, it was a simple dinner and laundry for Bill and I. Then home to work on slides, listen to Pandora, read Twitter and learn about the Continental crash within minutes of it occuring. Course started the day early by checking Twitter, as normal, literally first thing in the morning!

Still cold out, but the weather is beautiful lately! I was thinking of what I could posisbly do as a "theme" and came up with every cache I pass within 50 of during the course of my day. However, there were so many of those, I gave up.

After work went to dinner at Applebee's with Dad, Bill, and Damien.

Pictures for this month's 12 of 12: January

December 12th

Wow, been doing this a whole year! I still haven't gotten down the amount of quantity needed to feed the entire office. I'm just not used to shopping for more than 2, and 50 is certainly out of the question!

This morning though I did make a run over to the near by cache before work and dropped a geocoin I've held onto way to long. Imagine, if you will, two caches 500 feet apart and our office building smack in the middle. Work itself has 5 cachers that I know of, and the bank next door has another. Nice little metropolis we got going.

Dayton wasn't much interesting, same ol same ol, though I did see a grey Ninja ride by - Dad got a new bike and with the gas prices the way they are, motorcycles are starting to look enticing again.

Spent the day running around, enjoying BBQ, and working out in the storage shed as the File Room Supervisor is getting ready to purge the OLD films (seriously old, I've found films older than me!) but, by law, we're required to keep certain films for a certain period, so it's my job to go and look through all the jackets and pull out those that meet the qualifications. Wouldn't be so bad if the store room wasn't so HOT.

After work, I went for a walk to the store to get my exercise and medication all at once and then it's laundry day, so Bill and I headed over to the laundramat we like - mainly because of the arcade games and the multiple TVs. The lady who works there has gotten to know us and will change to the channel to what we want to watch (which was LOST before the season ended). Though now they got a new Cruise Exotica and we've figured out how to punch in a player ID, so now we're going nuts with this racing game. I usually come in last...

All in all a good day. I begin each morning with a call at 6:30am from Bill who's been kind enough to wake my lazy bum up each morning. I don't think I'll ever get used to this.

Monday's, after I clock in at work, I head over to the grocery store to buy the radiologists their breakfast (typically juice, milk, fruits, and yogurt) before collecting the morning deliveries and heading out to Dayton. After I drop the films off at Dayton, and find any backup CDs that are needed, I head back into Carson to check in storage for films, pick up the morning mail, drop off films at an Urgent Care, deliver reports to an office only open in the morning, and pick up films from the hospital. Then, take all this back to the office before helping out in the file room.

Once I finish lunch, I head down to another Urgent Care, this time at the south end of town. Once I deliver those films and reports, I return to gather the afternoon deliveries. I take those to two other Urgent Cares in Carson, deliver reports throughout the doctors offices, and then return to a smaller hospital to collect or drop off films. If the day's quiet, I then go back to the file room, otherwise I finish off my day by running specimens from us to the main hospital.

So that's how my day at work goes, but on Monday's I've been invited to join some folks from the Nugget (mix of friends, customers, and employees) for $1 bowling at the old bowling center in town. I typically suck, but I do have fun. Lately, one of the guys noticed how hard and fast I was throwing my personal ball and when he picked it up, he was dumbfounded to learn I only throw a 9 pound ball. He suggested I use an 11, but that threw me off balance, so I'll experiment with a 10.

Came home, hung out will Bill for awhile, before he had to get ready for work, and I had to head to bed. Another good day, in my opinion.

Pictures for this month's 12 of 12: May

April 12th

Today we decided to go out and maintain the caches that I've adopted and placed since my count has bounced for a few scattered here and there to a good chunk of the ones in Carson.

So, after a good breakfast, and waking everyone up, I ran the Pocket Query and loaded the GPS's so we'd have something to go by other than my memory of what was now mine. Then into the truck... er, after I cleaned it out. Water bottles and misc trash has built up in the truck and I needed to get it clean.

We started at the south end of town, and moved our way north; adjusting, replacing, cleaning up, and generally making sure all the caches were as they were supposed to be. All in all, the caches were alright and only a few logs needed to be replaced.

We turned and headed up towards Virginia City before dropping down Geiger Grade and going into Reno. Bill wanted to stop by REI and get some new shirts and pants, and I wanted to check out some backpacks. I'm trying to decide how best to use the rebate check supposedly on its way from the government.

I've narrowed my choices down to either rock bars or new lights on the truck or a backpack, sleeping bag, and tent combo. So while up at REI I got the attention of one of the staff and played with a short women's bag that would work for the hikes that I plan on taking. I like it with the exception of two pressure points right on my arms.

Afterwards we headed over to Red Robin for some dinner, and then went around looking for some new t-shirts for me. I'm tired of the standard black t's that I've had for several years. Unfortunately, the t's that I saw up at Galena Junction weren't t's, they were long sleeved shirts. And Wal-Mart no longer had their selection of Earth Day t's that I liked.

Then home, grabbed two movies from Blockbuster, Office Space and Robin Williams Live on Broadway! Yeah, today was a good day.

Pictures for this month's 12 of 12: April

March 12th

Another 12th is here - today promises to be interesting as I'm training a new guy today. Thing is I only have one week to do so before I start my new job.

But in the meanwhile - check this link out: http://play.blogger.com/

Okay - I seriously needed out of the house!

Dragged Bill along (after he woke up) to go hit a couple caches and go wheeling now that the weather has decided to cooperate. The first cache we hit was a new one outside of the Kit Kat Ranch, and apparently the GeoJeepers were so eager to get out of there that they missed the FTF prize - a Starbucks card. So, guess who got it?

Headed across the road and up onto the old V&T bed to go grab a few caches from last year's Rally. However, after the first two were DNF'd we just stuck to driving and bounced our way up the hills to American Flats. Bill was (wrongly) told that "they" had begun tearing the old mill down, but there she stood in all her ruined glory. I love looking at those ruins from a distance, but the place sure creeps me out up close.

Since I couldn't find the way down to the ruins and our time was limited, I chose instead to show Bill Silver City's cemetary up in the hills above the town. He enjoyed that, but I had no time to stop and wander through the headstones.

Off to work where Mike was introduced to me and I began training the closer/replacement. I didn't know if he'd heard I was leaving (found out a couple days later he knows) so I just went along as if I would be there. He's quick, picking up what I'm showing him, and puzzling his way through the various tasks. I've confidence in him that he'll succeed here.

Alas, no pictures from the work day - hard to take pics on the casino floor itself and really had no time for a break.

Pictures for this month's 12 of 12: March

February 12th

This has been a fantastic day. I went hiking!!

The weather has finally started to warm up (though rumor is tomorrow it's supposed to suck again). Decided that it was time to get out of the house and actually start walking again. I've begun walking to work since it's so close and last night I laid out the plan to hike to several unfound caches in the area that have just been sitting there - mainly due to them being hikes.

This morning I did research on Lori's Lookout, the closest cache to me. This four stage multi has been sitting for a year with my name on only three of the logs. But when I got there today, I found that the fourth was further than I thought, so I changed my mind and hiked up to Bear Rock.

A steep, snowy, muddy tromp up the hill - with the constant mantra of looking over at Freel and saying, yelling, screaming "This is all for YOU!" - got me up to an outcropping of granite where I sat and had my lunch overlooking Hwy 50 going up to Spooner.

Came home and watched some firemen using the old church nearby as practice as they hauled the hose into the building and then turned on the water. Cool stuff, wish I could ahve been closer to watch it, though I hate the thought of getting in their way.

Bill got a call that his refund check was in, so we drove out to his folks place and then turned immediately around as I was due for school. Thankfully we made it back with 45 minutes to spare so I grabbed a quick dinner of soup and then off for some learning.

Tuesday nights are my GIS class - we're focusing mainly on geodatabases this semester and tonight we learned how to edit and create new Feature Datasets. With the primary focus being on establishing the correct spatial reference and the extent. Then we worked on the class assignment and the project assignment. The first was just a recap of what we learned, the second is beginning to put everything from last semester and the stuff from this one together to build a personal geodatabase from scratch. Cake walk so far, but we're picking up the pace and I may have to forgo helping others simply to stay focused on what's being said.

Once home, sat and watched Last Holiday while Bill got ready for work. But, it's my Saturday and I'm going to enjoy my Sunday. Hopefully I'll get to do some caching tomorrow. There's a few left here in Carson that I still haven't gotten. Oh to have this valley cleaned out again!

Here's the pix from today: February 12th

January 12th

Discovered a marker today that until this moment I had been totally ignorant of. This is a good day.

Today was the standard work day. Started off the morning by working on my Wherigo project - a walking tour of old Carson City along the Kit Carson blue line trail. Managed to get about 12 houses finished, out of 34. I'm getting there.

While examining the map for the trail, I noticed a dot indicating the original location of Eagle Station, the very first structure in the valley (soon named Eagle Valley due to the builders shooting and mounting an eagle to the Station). Bill and I drove over to investigate.

Inside the yard of a business right on 5th street, behind some bushes, there was the marker. I've driven by this place numerous times, but due to the bushes had no clue about the marker! Oh today is a great day! Also discovered what I think to be the old carriage house/horse stables for the children attending intermediate and high school in what is now the block with Dr. S. L. Lee's house.

Drove around afterwards just snapping pictures of the houses, but time forbid me from getting the great shots I want to post on the wherigo cartridge. So off to work. Which, again, was boring!! I think I ended up with maybe three hours of work, simply cause I've been off the last two days. Fiddled around looking for various projects to take up my time. There was one big rush at the Club Booth which occupied a half hour. That was fun.

Came home and sat watching the first season of Lost. I just bought the second season and so need a refresher as to what has happened so far.

Here's the link to the pictures I took today: January 12th

December 12th

Posting this at the White Elephant event - ending an awesome day with an awesome party. Details and pictures soon.

Welcome to my first 12 of 12!! I kept hearing Sonny and Sandy over on Podcacher.com talk about this, but never really had the time/interest/whatever to bother doing it. However, I think I must have heard it enough times, because I finally decided, what the heck?! Let's do it!

Today was a day of a lot of runs to Reno. First, a run up to meet Mark and Bea to examine maps for the upcoming Navigational Rally and plan out some spectacular 4x4 trails to send participants on. Sadly, the recent snow storms have curtailed our exploration trips, but that's what Google Earth is for, right?

Second trip was with Bill and Bea as we hit a few caches around town. Including two cool caches that reside inside a library and a geology museum at UNR. A lot of fun was had, despite freezing my fingers off. We even went and looked at one cache that is on an island in the Truckee River since the river level is fairly low. The threat of hypothermia and knee deep ice cold water kept us out until summer.

The final trip was to the White Elephant event hosted by the Great Basin and Eastern Sierra Geocachers. Lots of fun there and loads of pizza and presents - and a little game called "Who Am I?" where Angie stuck a label on everyone's back and, using only Yes/No questions, you had to determine who you were. While I wasn't really in a "game" mood, I did have fun messing with those who were around me, including Dr. Seuss, Prince Charles, Frosty the Snowman, GI Joe, and ET. I turned out to be Brittany Spears.

See you next month!!

Album for December 12th, 2007
